Young Gunshot Victim Dies After Being Dropped Off at Hospital
An 18-year-old gunshot victim who was dropped off at a hospital Wednesday night died hours later from a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.
Whoever drove Lucas Jesus Gomez to Coastal Communities Hospital apparently fled after dropping him off, Police Sgt. Art Echternacht said. The Santa Ana man died later at the hospital.
Just before 10:20 p.m., about the time that Gomez was left at the hospital, officers were investigating reports of shots being fired in the 300 block of East St. Andrew Place, which is about 2 miles from the hospital, Echternacht said. “All indications are that the shots reported to us were in fact the ones that killed the victim.”
Police have no suspects or motive for the shooting.
