FULLERTON : Condo Complex Gets Council Approval

Share

The City Council approved plans to build a 94-unit condominium complex on the west edge of town despite the opposition of Buena Park officials who said the project could end up next to an industrial park.

Council members voted 4 to 0 to approve the Stratham Group’s project on a 4.4-acre site near the northwest corner of Whitaker Street and Magnolia Avenue. Earlier this month, the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission approved the owner’s plans to have the unincorporated county island annexed by Fullerton, which borders the parcel on three sides. The west edge of the site is bordered by Buena Park.

Buena Park officials opposed the project, fearing that it would be too dense. They also told council members that they were still unsure what will be built on their side of the Stratham property, although it is targeted for some type of industrial business.

But Fullerton council members said it would be unfair to wait until the Buena Park side is developed.

“We cannot hold back one landowner until we see what happens with another,” Councilman Richard C. Ackerman said.

The Stratham Group plans to include a 6-foot masonry block wall to border the Buena Park side. In addition, condominiums on that end will not include window openings on their west walls in an attempt to keep out the noise.

The Newport Beach company expects to sell the condominiums to young families at a cost of $100,000 to $120,000.
