BUENA PARK : City to Build 50 Wheelchair Ramps

Share

People who use wheelchairs will soon find it more convenient to get around town, as the City Council last week authorized the building of 50 access ramps throughout the city.

Schools, commercial sites including the Buena Park Mall, and the city’s recreation center are slated to get the new ramps. Any place that the public uses frequently was targeted, said Loren Tuthill, design services manager.

The $52,000 needed to cover the installation of ramps and other costs will be paid by the Orange County Transportation Authority, which funds the wheelchair ramp program.

The city has received funding for the program for several years and has installed about 200 ramps throughout the city. Tuthill said the city will continue to apply for the funding because even more ramps are needed. The current project should take about two years to complete.
