Former Canoga Park defense contractor Richard I. Silver was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison for his conviction on fraud and counterfeiting charges in what authorities said was a scheme to defraud the Pentagon of $1.2 million.

Silver was sentenced Oct. 28 in federal court in Los Angeles. He pleaded guilty in April to falsely billing the government in 1982 and 1983 for aircraft parts that his company had not supplied or that did not conform to the contracts. The company, Aetech Industries of Canoga Park, is now defunct.

Silver, who attended Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, was arrested in Arizona late last year after living as a fugitive for several years.
