NEWPORT BEACH : Council Gives Mayor Another Year in Post
Mayor Phil Sansone won unanimous City Council approval this week to continue as mayor for another year.
Sansone’s council colleagues cited the 71-year-old retiree’s ability to run thoughtful meetings in a smooth, timely manner. His frank demeanor gives him a knack for moving public hearings along when testimony strays from the issue or becomes repetitive, they said.
The Corona del Mar resident is in the first year of his second, four-year council term, and has been mayor since November, 1990.
The council also unanimously elected Councilman Clarence J. Turner as mayor pro tem for a second year.
Turner is also in his second, four-year term.
