PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Role Change Bothers Delpino

Tailback Robert Delpino, who spent three years earning his role as the Rams’ primary ballcarrier, wasn’t pleased Wednesday after learning that Marcus Dupree would do most of the team’s rushing for the rest of the season.

“You do all you can every day, every year, and it still doesn’t seem to be enough,” said Delpino, who is still considered the Rams’ starting tailback but will be used mostly on passing downs the rest of the way. Coach John Robinson said he was making the move only because he had to see what Dupree can do, and that as long as he’s the coach, Delpino will be a major part of the Ram offense.

The long-awaited shake-up of the offensive line became fact, with Tom Newberry moving from left guard back to center, Bern Brostek moving back in at left guard and 35-year-old center Doug Smith moving out of the lineup, possibly for good.
