Farm Worker Killed in Car Crash

An Oceanside farm laborer died Thursday morning when the car in which he was a passenger went out of control and hit a telephone pole on North River Road in eastern Oceanside, authorities said.
Nicolas Udiera, who police said was in his late 30s, died of massive head and neck injuries. Two other passengers also were injured and were taken to Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside for treatment, police said.
The driver, Bertin Fuentes, 18, also of Oceanside, was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of motor vehicle homicide and driving while intoxicated, police said.
The accident occurred about 9:15 a.m. as the car was rounding a curve in the road. No one in the car was wearing seat belts, police said.
