Doing Something About Gang Crime

The Times would perform a public service by correctly labeling the perpetrators of the weekly drive-by shootings. Thus, “Man Firing Into Apartment Kills 1 and Wounds 2” (Nov. 18) would be altered to read: “Coward Firing Into. . . .”

Other appellations appropriate to the deed might include gutless and Neanderthal . I could suggest many more, but most would be inappropriate to a family newspaper.

One doubts those so named would be influenced to change their behavior, since their reading material consists in the main of the latest graffiti on sewer walls, but at least on future Mondays these news items would give readers of The Times the satisfaction in knowing their daily paper is continuing its policy of accuracy in reporting.
