Authorities said they confiscated a machine gun, some inert hand grenades and other military and civilian weapons from a 51-year-old man after his frightened wife called Ventura County sheriff’s deputies Saturday night.

Richard Arnold of the 300 block of Capri Drive outside Simi Valley was being held at Ventura County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. He was arrested on suspicion of spousal battery, false imprisonment, brandishing a firearm and unlawful possession of a machine gun, said sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Larson.

Arnold’s wife called deputies about 9:30 p.m. after fleeing the house and said Arnold had threatened to blow up deputies and her, said Lt. Kelli McIlvain.

Arnold was reported to have been drinking and in possession of weapons and possible explosives, McIlvain said. A Special Weapons and Tactics unit was called, and after a 3 1/2-hour wait, Arnold surrendered.

Authorities seized inert hand grenades, ammunition and numerous military and civilian weapons, McIlvain said.

Arnold’s wife was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries. Arnold is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
