STAGE REVIEWS HOLIDAY SHOWS : A Frightful Offering in ‘Yuletide Frolic’

Share

The Times’ Drama Department recently visited a smattering of holiday shows open for business. Here’s a sampling of what’s in and around town .

There’s a cruel but irresistible irony in the fact that “A Yuletide Frolic”--which was kicked out of its last theater after one performance--is now headed for the Haunted Studios on Hollywood Boulevard. If ever Christmas had turned frightful, this is it.

Writer/director and star Laralee has fashioned a jumble of amateur sketches ranging from “Santa’s Poker Night” to “A Slavic Celebration” (with characters named Drip, Folgers and Coffee). One of the seven cast members, Richard Gadas, rises above the disaster with a terrific lounge lizard act signaling, with a wink, the third-hand vaudeville on view here.

* “A Yuletide Frolic,” Haunted Studios, 6419 Hollywood Blvd., Dec. 13-14, 20-21, 10 p.m. $7. (213) 465-3362. Running time: 1 hours, 45 minutes.
