Monrovia : Power to Give Extra Vacation
The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to give itself the power to grant extra vacation time to employees called to military duty.
The issue was raised after a Monrovia police officer serving in the Navy during the Persian Gulf War used up all his vacation and compensatory time on active duty.
Existing personnel policy did not allow the officer extra vacation time when he returned to work, but the city’s department directors donated their own vacation hours so he could take a vacation this year, Assistant City Manager Jeanne Kennedy said.
The vote will not affect the officer’s case but will allow for more vacation in future cases.
