Crafts Workshop--The Oak Canyon Nature Center is sponsoring a holiday crafts workshop Saturday. The workshop is geared toward children ages 6 to 10, but all ages are welcome.

The craft projects included in the workshop will use natural materials or will have some tie-in to the environment.

There will be two identical sessions, one from 10 a.m. to noon and the other from 1 to 3 p.m. Each session costs $6.50 per participant.

Marsh News--A guided tour of the San Joaquin Freshwater Marsh Reserve will be held Tuesday. The event is sponsored by the UC Irvine Cooperative Outdoor Program.

The tour will include a discussion about the various animals and birds that inhabit the marsh, focusing on the waterfowl currently migrating through the area. It will be from 1 to 2 p.m.

Participants are asked to meet at the UC Irvine Arboretum on the university’s North Campus. For more information, call Marsh Steward Bill Bretz at (714) 856-6031.

Bay Tours--Guided tours of Upper Newport Bay will be offered Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

The free tours are sponsored by the Upper Newport Bay Regional Park and Ecological Reserve. Specialists will be on hand to explain the bay’s flora and fauna as well as the food chain that develops in the bay’s waters and supports the wildlife found there.

Those who would like to participate are asked to meet at Back Bay and Eastbluff drives in Newport Beach. For more information, call (714) 643-1444.
