The Big Eight announced a new revenue distribution formula that rewards high-profile football and basketball schools with a much greater share of TV receipts.

Beginning in 1992, participating teams will keep 40% of the money from nationally televised nonconference football games instead of the current 22%. Based on a $900,000 fee in 1991 for an ABC-TV national game, teams that got about $200,000 last season will get about $360,000 per game next season.

There had been speculation that Oklahoma and Nebraska, long the dominant football powers, might leave the Big Eight if an adjustment in their favor was not made in revenue distribution.
