Ventura County Community College District Trustee Pete Tafoya was selected by fellow board members Tuesday night to become president of the five-member panel, replacing Timothy Hirschberg.

Tafoya, who was elected in 1989 to represent Oxnard and Port Hueneme, said he was thrilled to lead the board.

“It’s great to have an opportunity to be at the forefront of an education system that makes such a great impact on our community,” said Tafoya, director of mechanical systems at the Naval Civil Engineering Lab at Point Mugu. “I want to better serve the students and provide them with a quality education system.”

Trustee Greg Cole was selected as vice president of the board. Allan W. Jacobs, recently elected to fill convicted embezzler James T. (Tom) Ely’s board seat, was sworn in.

Also at the college board meeting, board members selected Houston educator Jeff Marsee to replace Tom Kimberling as vice chancellor for administrative services, one of the highest-ranking positions in the district.
