LAGUNA BEACH : Kathy Jones Quits as School Trustee
The Laguna Beach Unified School District announced a vacancy on the Board of Education after the resignation Tuesday of member Kathy Jones.
Jones, who became vice chancellor at UC Irvine within the past year, resigned her school district position because of the difficulty of balancing the demands of both jobs, according to a letter she submitted to Board of Education members. Jones had been on the school board for four years.
On Wednesday, Supt. Paul M. Possemato said Jones’ decision came as “a blow to all of the board members.”
“She resigned with a great deal of reluctance and with the board members concerned and saddened by it,” he said. “It’s a board that has worked extremely well together in the last year.”
The board is expected to choose a replacement for Jones during an open meeting by Jan. 6. Interested residents can pick up a resume form at the superintendent’s office at at the district office, 550 Blumont St. Completed resumes must be submitted to the same office by 5 p.m. Jan. 3.
