MISSION VIEJO : College District Elects New President
The Saddleback Community College District Board of Trustees this week elected John C. Connolly as its new president, succeeding Marcia Milchiker.
Connolly, 49, has served on the seven-member board since 1978. He previously served as president in 1982 and as vice president in 1984.
“I’m thrilled,” Connolly said shortly after being elected. “I’m looking forward to serving as president of the board during the silver anniversary of the district and of Saddleback College.”
Connolly, an attorney who lives in Mission Viejo, recently retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve after 25 years as a commander and pilot, which included two tours in Vietnam. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from St. John’s University in New York and earned his law degree from Western State University College of Law.
He currently has a private law practice in Santa Ana and is the managing partner of the Southern California offices for Leach, McGreevy & Eliassen, a San Francisco law firm.
Also elected to new positions during the board’s annual reorganization meeting were Harriett S. Walther as vice president and Shirley Gellatly as clerk.
The Saddleback Community College District, which includes Saddleback and Irvine Valley colleges, has a combined enrollment of more than 33,000 students and more than 1,800 employees.
