A Costa Mesa woman accused of stabbing her husband and dismembering his body has denied committing the murder, according to court documents filed Wednesday.

A search warrant affidavit said Omayma Aref Nelson, 23, told a Costa Mesa police detective during a tape-recorded interview that she did not kill William Edwin Nelson, 56, Dec. 1. She also said Nelson was out of state that day on a business trip.

The search warrant affidavit, which contains the reasons Costa Mesa police wanted to search her home, was filed in Orange County Superior Court.

Nelson, who is being held without bail in Orange County Jail, is accused of murdering William Nelson and dismembering his body. She was arrested after police found six trash bags filled with human remains inside the couple’s home and William Nelson’s 1975 Corvette. Her arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 20.

Nelson’s statements contradict the account of Jose Albert Esquivel, an acquaintance who said she admitted the killing to him outside his apartment the day of the slaying and tried to enlist him in a plan to get rid of the remains.

Police described the Nelsons as a married couple. But although she said they were wed in Phoenix on Nov. 1, no marriage license has been found for them in Arizona.
