SANTA ANA : School District Picks a New President

The Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education has elected Robert W. Balen as its new president and named Richard C. Hernandez as vice president.

At its meeting this week, the board unanimously approved its annual reshuffling of the one-year positions. As president, Balen, who has served on the board since 1989, will represent the school district and run meetings.

Under the new organization, Audrey Yamagata-Noji becomes clerk, and former board President Sal Mendoza will become the representative in charge of nominating members to the county Department of Education Committee on School District Organization. Rosemarie Avila will be the district’s political action representative for the county School Boards Assn.

The board oversees all hiring, curriculum, and budget matters.
