Reagans to Attend Library Party

Former President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy, are expected to attend a Christmas party for about 250 library staff members, docents and their guests Monday at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley.

“The Reagans wanted to wish the staff members and volunteers a happy holiday and to thank them for all their work since the library opened last month,” said Cathy Goldberg, a spokeswoman for the Reagans.

In the main lobby, the Reagans will light a 12-foot-tall artificial green tree decorated with favorite traditional Christmas ornaments from the couple’s days in the White House.

The tree-lighting ceremony will feature performances by choirs from Aspen Elementary School in Thousand Oaks and Royal High School in Simi Valley, and will be followed by a reception in the adjoining auditorium.

The event is closed to the public. But during normal hours, through the end of the year, library visitors will be able to see the tree along with a nine-foot-tall menorah in the library museum entrance hall.

Also, an eight-foot-tall decorated scale model of the White House will be on display in the library auditorium until Jan. 15, when it goes to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
