CAGED ANIMALS, WILD HUNTERS

Share

As a lifelong hunter, I take great offense at your portrayal of canned-hunt hunters as hunters at all. Perhaps “trophy shooters” would be a better description, although I think even that label is too flattering.

No true trophy hunter that I know of would value any trophy collected through a canned hunt as described in the story. Of course there are those pseudo-hunters who would rather buy a “trophy” (actually shooting the animal is not always necessary) in order to massage their egos and convince their friends of their “hunting” prowess.

The author also does many legitimate hunting ranches a great disservice by implying that what he described goes on at all or most ranches where exotics are hunted. There are many ranches in Texas and elsewhere where exotics have been introduced and are hunted in a wild and fair manner.
