Rest Stop

Share

Please advise your readers that when driving in Mexico City they must take care to obey the laws concerning “rest days” for autos with license plates ending in certain numbers. For example, if your plates end in the number three and it is a Wednesday, you are forbidden to drive. Failure to obey this law can result in a stiff fine, possible time in custody and vehicle impoundment. I escaped those problems by paying $120 to the policemen who stopped me; I also agreed not to drive my car until the rest day was over. I advise people to exercise extreme caution when driving in Mexican cities because the police are very quick to extract money from American motorists.
