THOUSAND OAKS : Council May Raise 30,000 Trash Bills
Monthly trash bills for about 30,000 households in Thousand Oaks could go up next month under a plan to increase rates by $2. Residents of single-family houses would see trash bills increase by 13% if the proposed $16.60 rate is adopted Tuesday by the City Council. Residents of condominiums and apartment houses would have to pay $12.50 a month to have trash collected.
If approved, it would be the third trash rate increase in a year and a half. It would be effective Jan. 1.
City officials say the rate increase is necessary to pay for recycling programs that Thousand Oaks recently instituted to reduce the amount of household and yard waste that is taken to county landfills.
