OXNARD : Santa Paula Man, 19, Hurt in Shooting
A 19-year-old Santa Paula man was shot near The Esplanade shopping center in Oxnard this week but escaped serious injury. Oxnard police said the drive-by shooting may be gang-related.
Jeff Smythe, 19, was a passenger in a car on Vineyard Boulevard at midnight Tuesday when a man in a dark-colored Monte Carlo fired at least one shot at him, said Oxnard Police Officer Steven Vendt.
The bullet gazed Smythe’s shoulder, and he was treated at Santa Paula Hospital and released, Vendt said.
The suspect remains at large.
