NEWPORT BEACH : Kindergarten May Be Home to Coastline

Share

Eastbluff Kindergarten Center may become a new site for Coastline Community College under a plan being considered by the Newport-Mesa Unified School District.

Officials at the community college have been working with the school district on an arrangement to use the site for a child-care center, classes in subjects such as parenting, and senior activities. If approved, the site would open next fall.

However, college officials stressed that they want approval from the surrounding community and have engaged in a monthlong outreach campaign to determine the types of classes that residents would like to see there and any concerns they may have.

Residents have said they want assurances that parking problems and the continued use of nearby playing fields will be resolved before a lease is signed.

Carolyn Stocker of Newport-Mesa said the district welcomes and supports the college’s plan but wants to be certain that residents will be satisfied.

Currently, Coastline classes in Newport Beach are held in the afternoons and evenings at Corona del Mar High School.
