SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : Trojan Wars on the Tube

USC athletes and coaches past and present will be featured in three intriguing weekend televised sports events.

Pro Football: John Robinson, who coached the Trojans for seven seasons, concludes his nine-year tenure with the Rams when they visit the Seattle Seahawks at 5 p.m. Sunday on KCAL Channel 9 and ESPN. A Trojan of more recent vintage, Todd Marinovich, is scheduled to make his National Football League debut when the Raiders play host to the Kansas City Chiefs at 1 p.m. Sunday. KMIR Channel 36 in Palm Springs and KNSD Channel 39 in San Diego will carry the game. The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets meet Sunday at 10 a.m. on Channels 4 and 36 to decide the AFC’s final playoff berth. The Washington Redskins, already assured of the league’s best record, conclude regular season play against the Philadelphia Eagles at 1 p.m. on KCBS Channel 2. Today’s NFL games match the Houston Oilers and the New York Giants (9:30 a.m., Channels 4, 36 and 39) and the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings (1 p.m., Channels 2 and 8).

College Basketball: After compiling a 6-1 record over such lesser teams as Cal State Sacramento, UC Irvine, St. Louis, Gonzaga, Kent and Tennessee Martin, USC plays host to powerful No. 4 Ohio State (6-0), at 4:30 p.m. today on ESPN. In today’s other telecasts involving teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, No. 10 St. John’s faces No. 14 Indiana (11:30 a.m., ESPN) and No. 8 Kentucky visits No. 13 Georgia Tech (6:30 p.m., ESPN).

Other Sports: After a three-game trip, the Lakers return to the Forum Sunday for a 7:30 p.m. Prime Ticket game against the Phoenix Suns. The Detroit Red Wings come to the Forum tonight to provide the opposition for the Kings in another 7:30 p.m. Prime Ticket telecast. In golf, the Johnnie Walker World Championship airs at 4 p.m. today on Channels 7, 3 and 42 (3 p.m. on KGTV Channel 10) and 3 p.m. Sunday on all four ABC stations.
