J.J. Isler of La Jolla, with crew Pam Healy of San Francisco, sailed to the women’s world championship in the 470 dinghy class at Brisbane, Australia. There were 37 entries from 17 countries, including all of the top contenders for the 1992 Olympics at Barcelona.

Isler and Healy, both 28, ranked No. 1 in the U.S., got the most important victory by U.S. women sailors since Allison Jolly of Long Beach and Lynne Jewell-Shore of Newport, R.I., won the 470 class gold medal at Pusan, South Korea, in 1988.
