Murder charges were filed Monday against a McDonald’s restaurant manager in Los Angeles who allegedly shot another McDonald’s manager to death because he mistakenly thought the victim was involved with his girlfriend.

Salvador Arellano Villegas, 28, of Los Angeles, was charged with one count of murder in the Dec. 13 death of Tony Esquivel, 31, of Los Angeles. Villegas is being held without bail.

Esquivel managed a McDonald’s at 300 S. Grand Ave. Villegas manages an outlet at Olympic Boulevard and Alvarado Street. Police said Esquivel was leaving a gym after a workout when he was shot. The victim had a 9-year-old son, an honors student praised as a leader by his teachers. The boy was honored by Los Angeles Raiders owner Al Davis at Sunday’s game at the Coliseum.
