A woman who claimed to be armed remained at large Wednesday after taking $2,000 from a Thousand Oaks bank in a Monday afternoon robbery, authorities said.

The Great Western Bank branch on Thousand Oaks Boulevard was robbed by a woman in her late 20s who gave the teller a demand note indicating that she had a gun, though no weapon was seen, said Lt. Bill Montijo of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Witnesses described the suspect, the second woman to rob a bank in Ventura County this year, as a 6-foot, 190-pound black woman wearing a straw hat and a bright green long-sleeved shirt. She fled on foot, eluding sheriff’s deputies and a helicopter unit.

The holdup was one of three bank robberies committed in the county Monday. The other two were in Oxnard. According to the FBI, there have been 50 bank robberies countywide this year, contrasted with 43 in 1990.
