Italy Recognizes Ukraine

ROME —
Italy recognized Ukraine on Saturday and said it hoped to do the same with other states of the former Soviet Union as they fulfill basic criteria regarding respect for minorities, human rights and internal borders.
Rome recognized the Russian Federation on Christmas Day.
