California IN BRIEF : FRESNO : Young Flu Victims Overflowed Hospital
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Valley Children’s Hospital was so packed with flu victims last weekend that it had to ship some of its young patients out of the area. Hospital officials said the 156-bed facility was inundated with about 200 patients on Dec. 28, forcing doctors to send children as far away as Los Angeles. Others were shipped to hospitals in Visalia and Merced. Hospital chief J. D. Northway said other Fresno hospitals could not be used because most of the patients were under 2 years old, too young for adult facilities.
