Two Pleas to Voters

Share

This is a plea to all of us who vote. There are real problems in the country that affect us by having made our lives more tenuous than most of us have ever experienced. Might we resolve to elect candidates who can lead? Might we resolve to think about the issues that determine whether our country survives: jobs, economic recovery, industrial vigor? Could we eliminate candidates who look good when everything is going well, but turn to sludge when faced with problems?

Could we please set aside our pet single-issue passions in favor of the country just once? Could we agree to vote for candidates who are bright, knowledgeable, and committed to serving the country? Is it possible to ignore what the consultants package and vote instead for folks who can lead a nation in serious trouble?

We’ve gotten away with lethargy over the years because our country worked so well. Most of us have never faced the potential of disaster before, but the country needs us to be tender and smart this time. It’s at least something to think about.
