From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Nine people were arrested at a school board meeting and the Mexican-American Political Assn., which has led an anti-discrimination school boycott here, accused police of injuring people who demanded to be heard. “When did it become illegal for parents to attend a school board meeting?” asked George Martinez, president of the Fresno County MAPA chapter. Police Chief Ed Hernandez said the crowd became unruly, so officers declared it an unlawful assembly and ordered people to leave. Someone threw objects at officers, and people began advancing on them, Hernandez said.
