A former vice president for fund raising at KCET and Cal State Fullerton has been named director of development for UC Irvine’s School of Engineering.

Anthony A. Macias, 43, will be responsible for helping the dean of engineering and the school’s faculty set fund-raising priorities and for seeking financial support for those goals from alumni, corporations, foundations and the community.

Macias left KCET, the Los Angeles-based public television station, in August after 1 1/2 years in charge of fund raising and program and production underwriting. A KCET spokeswoman said Macias left “to pursue other professional opportunities.”

“One thing led to another, and here I am,” said Macias, who started at UCI on Friday. He will receive a yearly salary of $67,700.

Before KCET, Macias was vice president for university relations and development at Cal State Fullerton from 1984 to 1990. Before that, he was associate dean of Stanford University’s School of Engineering, a post he said is roughly equivalent to the new job at UCI.

Macias received a bachelor’s degree from Stanford in 1970 and a law degree from Harvard University Law School in 1973. He recently moved to Anaheim Hills.
