Temple City : Park’s Night Hours Reduced
Reacting to neighbors’ complaints of noise and abusive language from people at Live Oak Park, the City Council voted to turn the lights off earlier at the park’s basketball court.
The lights will go out at 9 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Several basketball players objected that others in the park also make noise. “Where do people go to make noise?” one player asked. “It seems the park is the right place.”
Limiting night hours, they said, would cut into the playing time of people who work during the day.
City Manager Denise Ovrom said the basketball players are not being singled out, and that the council at its next meeting will consider what to do about other noise sources.
