OXNARD : 2 Are Arrested After Man Killed in Fight

A fight that erupted among four Oxnard residents after a drinking binge Thursday evening left one man dead and another with multiple stab wounds, Oxnard police said Friday.

Francisco Cortez, 28, was pronounced dead when officers arrived in the 200 block of West Elm Street at 10:15 p.m., police said.

The other victim, Pablo Reyes, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard with stab wounds to the upper body. He was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Matthew Navarro, 19, and Ruben Torres, 23, are being held without bail on murder and attempted murder charges, Detective Robert Stofey said.

Witnesses who identified Navarro and Torres as the suspects told police that the four men argued fiercely before the fight. Police did not say what the fight was about.
