THE LAST WORD: Asked if the Rolling Stones are worth the $43 million Virgin Records is paying the group in its new contract, guitarist Keith Richards told Pop Eye: “If I was going to pay that much for anybody, I’d pay it for the Stones, ‘cause we’ve always delivered. Sometimes better than others, but we’ve never lost a buck for anyone. Now, I’m not going to mention any names but I wouldn’t pay that much for Paula Abdul or Michael Jackson’s sister.”
FYI, Abdul and Jackson’s sister (that’s Janet) also have ballyhooed big-bucks deals with . . . Virgin.
