Man, 84, Dies After Being Hit by Cab in Encino
An 84-year-old man crossing an Encino street to call a cab was struck and killed by another cab, police said Sunday.
Samuel Leifer of Studio City was pronounced dead Saturday night at Encino Hospital, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Mel Cunningham said.
The accident occurred after Leifer and his wife were driven to a Ventura Boulevard repair shop Saturday evening when their car became disabled on the freeway, Cunningham said. Leifer grew tired of waiting for the cab he had called, Cunningham said.
The man was hit by a cab as he crossed the street to telephone a taxi company, Cunningham said. Witnesses said Leifer was not in a crosswalk, and no charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the cab, Cunningham said.
