During the later years of their lives, George and Mary Lou Seibert received meals and other assistance through the city’s Michael E. Rodgers Seniors Center.

So grateful were the Seiberts that in their will they left their entire estate--worth $40,062--to the downtown seniors’ center.

George Seibert died in 1988, and Mary Lou died a year later. The Orange County public guardian only recently completed the final accounting of the Seiberts’ last will and testament and forwarded the money to the city of Huntington Beach.

The Rodgers Seniors Center’s outreach program helped the Seiberts between 1984 and 1988 when their health began to fail. The program helped them locate suitable living arrangements, regularly delivered meals to their home and provided transportation to medical appointments.

The Seiberts, who had no children or close relatives, bequeathed their life savings to the senior center for programs, services and equipment.

City officials said the couple’s $40,000 donation will help the city complete its new seniors outreach facility and remodel offices at the Rodgers Seniors Center.
