Share

Simi Valley police have issued misdemeanor citations to clerks at 21 food and liquor stores for selling alcoholic beverages to minors, authorities said.

Police used an 18-year-old non-city employee to try to buy alcohol at 72 retail establishments throughout the city on Jan. 8, 9 and 10. The investigation was part of an ongoing program to curb the sale of alcohol to minors.

In 18 of the sales, the clerk even looked at the youth’s license, police said.

The names of the businesses where the sales occurred will be forwarded to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Possible administrative sanctions range from a fine to revocation of the liquor license.
