City employees will receive raises ranging from 3.3% to 7.9%, although the City Council this week postponed consideration of similar raises for the city manager, police chief and police captain, City Clerk Mary Lou Morey said.

According to the resolutions adopted by the council this week, members of the municipal employees association--including secretaries, clerks, building inspectors and mechanics--will receive pay increases of 3.3%. Their monthly salaries will now range from $1,422 to $3,724.

The council added 4.5% to the fire captain’s monthly salary. It also gave a 4.7% increase for paramedics, after which their monthly salaries will range from $3,901 to $4,679. A 5% increase for fire engineers puts their salaries at between $3,645 and $4,364 a month, and a 5.7% increase for firefighters raises theirs to between $3,132 and $3,735. Battalion chiefs’ salaries will increase 7.9%.

The council postponed a proposed 7.8% increase for the city manager, police chief and police captain that was intended to keep their salaries 5% above the highest-paid police lieutenant, in accordance with city policy.
