Easily A Rouge won Saturday night’s La Primera Del Ano Derby at Los Alamitos Race Course by a neck over Streakit Special after favorite Corona Chick was scratched by the stewards.

The 1-9 favorite, Corona Chick, threw jockey Kip Didericksen and was cast in the starting gate for three minutes.

Veterinarian Edward Hill said the filly sustained abrasions on her right front and left hind legs, but there was no loss of blood.

“She lost a little hair, but we’ll know a little more in the morning,” Hill said.

Corona Chick has won nine consecutive races and is expected to be named the 1991 2-year-old of the year.

Didericksen was disappointed at the stewards’ decision.

“I still wanted to ride, but they scratched (her),” Didericksen said.

Wagers were refunded to Corona Chick’s backers and there was a nine-minute delay before the race began.

Easily A Rouge covered the 400 yards in 19.96 seconds and paid $4.80, $3.00 and $2.20. Streakit Special returned $5.20 and $2.60 and Le Executrix $2.40.

Dash Ta Fame, the 3-5 favorite led wire-to-wire for a 3/4-length victory in the co-feature, the $182,300 El Primero Del Ano Derby. Dash Ta Fame completed the 400-yards in a stakes-record 19.62 and paid $2.80, $2.40 and $2.40. Holland Ease paid $3.40 and $2.40 and Femmes Frolic $3.00.
