POINT MUGU : Helicopter Forced to Land Near Highway

Share

A 22-year-old Ventura pilot having mechanical trouble with his helicopter landed safely near the Pacific Coast Highway just south of Point Mugu Rock on Sunday morning, authorities said.

David Olivas and an unidentified passenger were not injured in the emergency landing during the intended flight from Torrance to Oxnard, Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Gullon said.

“Apparently he was having some mechanical problems,” Gullon said. Olivas successfully landed the corporate helicopter near the highway about 11 a.m. without causing any damage, Gullon said. “Helicopters can land on a dime,” he said.
