COUNTYWIDE : Hospital Offers Class in Safe Baby-Sitting

Children’s Hospital of Orange County will offer emergency training sessions for baby-sitters beginning Feb. 15.

The 13-hour “SafeSitter” class is offered over two days as part of a national training program that helps preteens learn to handle emergencies when caring for young children.

Students between 11 and 13 will get training in basic lifesaving techniques, such as CPR. Information will also be presented on child development, appropriate activities for various age groups and the business aspects of baby-sitting.

Class participants must pass written and practical tests to show they have mastered the skills and concepts necessary to handle an emergency.

The hospital is the only organization in the county to offer SafeSitter classes.

The class will be offered four times this year. The first session will be Feb. 15 and Feb. 22, followed by sessions in April, June and October. The classes will run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the hospital, 455 S. Main St. in Orange.

Fee for the program is $40.
