A 14-year-old North Hills boy died Tuesday after he was hit by a car while crossing a street, police said.

Eric Thompson was crossing Balboa Boulevard near Parthenia Street in Northridge about 11:40 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a car, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jay Taylor said.

One car swerved to miss the boy, but a second car hit him, throwing him over the hood and into the windshield, police said.

The boy was pronounced dead upon arrival at Northridge Hospital Medical Center about 12:15 a.m., Taylor said.

The driver, Valerie Martin, 24, of Littlerock, told police that she didn’t have time to stop, he said.

Martin, who had two small children in her car when she hit the boy, was not cited, Taylor said. But he added that the case is still under investigation.
