Israel’s Likud Leaders

I have to say that while I sympathize with Roiphe’s concern over the expansionist policies of the Israeli government, I think that she misses the point. Why is she surprised at the actions of Shamir and Sharon? These men have made it clear that the Palestinian issue is non-negotiable, and will remain so regardless of the efforts of the Bush Administration to orchestrate a viable peace process in the Middle East.

What Roiphe and the American public should be surprised at is that the U.S. continues to support this greedy, Zionist government at all. Would not our dollars and efforts be put to better use building shelters, hospitals and schools right here in our own country? Rather than funding settlements for Russian Jews in disputed territory, which only intensifies the conflict, why not lend a hand to the new Russian nation as it labors to crawl out into the light of a free-market economy?

Perhaps President Bush and the boys up on Capitol Hill need to stop worrying about pressure from Jewish-American political coalitions and find a more promising, realistic investment for our tax dollars. Enough is enough. It’s time to pick up our chips and find a new game.
