2 Challengers Say They’ll Seek Seats on City Council

Two challengers have declared their intentions of entering the race for one of three at-large Malibu City Council seats in the April 14 election.

Jeff Kramer, a lawyer who played a key role in Malibu’s cityhood drive, and Frank Basso, who finished seventh among 30 candidates in 1990, last week announced plans to enter the contest.

Kramer has served on the city’s General Plan Task Force, which is helping devise a blueprint for future growth in the community. He resigned his post last week, as required by the group’s bylaws, which prohibit candidates for public office from serving.

Basso is president of the Point Dume Homeowners and Residents Assn. and has served as co-chairman of the city’s transportation study group.

The three council members whose terms are expiring--Mike Caggiano, Carolyn Van Horn and Missy Zeitsoff--have indicated that they will seek a second term.

The filing period for entering the race began last week and continues until Feb. 6.
