SANTA ANA : Noise From Freeway Project to Increase
Daytime construction on the “Orange Crush” freeway interchange is going to get a lot noisier in the next few months as workers start using 10,000-pound pile drivers to prepare the foundation for 14 bridges.
California Department of Transportation spokeswoman Maureena Duran-Rojas said that the pile driving will begin today and that it will always be restricted to the hours between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The foundation work will continue sporadically through late spring. Although pile drivers create a lot of noise, dust and vibration, Caltrans will monitor the project to ensure that it does not exceed city noise limits.
The areas affected will include those along the Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Orange freeways, roughly bounded by Memory Lane to the south, Main Street to the east, Chapman Avenue to the north and the Santa Ana River to the west.
