Star Wars Project: McDonnell Douglas Space Systems Co. in Huntington Beach said it has won a $14.3-million contract to help launch a Star Wars missile defense experiment from aboard a Delta II rocket.

The rocket will be used to launch an experiment in space for the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization sometime in 1993 or 1994. The project, called the “Mid-Course Space Experiment,” will explore the use of sensors to detect nuclear missiles in flight.

Richard Murphy, a McDonnell Douglas executive, said Space Systems has helped with four other Star Wars-related missions.
