Temporary Ban on Council Office Remodeling Urged

Share

Los Angeles City Councilman Nate Holden said a proposal he introduced Tuesday is aimed at stopping his council colleagues from renovating and remodeling their offices until the economy improves.

Holden said some members continue to remodel their offices, while they have prevented him from redesigning his office, but he would not name them. “I’m not going to squeal on them,” he said.

He recently asked to spend about $280,000 to remodel his office, but Councilman Mike Hernandez, chairman of the administrative services committee, had suggested it was inappropriate because of the economy. The request was sent to the full council, which took no action. Holden’s proposal will go before Hernandez’s committee for discussion and then to the full council.
