BUENA PARK : Boys and Girls Club Chosen for Face Lift

Share

The Buena Park Boys and Girls Club will be getting a major face lift this year, thanks to local businesses and the Volunteer Center of Orange County West.

The center recently announced that it had selected the club to receive its annual Corporate Combined Volunteer Project, which brings together corporations and nonprofit groups seeking contributions of time or money.

Under the direction of the Volunteer Center, a group of local businesses will donate people, money and supplies to make badly needed improvements to the club, officials said.

“I am overwhelmed with the project,” said Jean Morgan, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club, which serves as a recreation center for hundreds of children every week. “It is so exciting.”

During the month of May, hundreds of volunteers are expected to descend on the club and do the work. Some of the renovations include a picnic area, baseball diamonds and computer room.

The renovations will be the first major improvements to the Buena Park club since the building opened in 1950. A few things have been updated since then, but club officials say the building is beginning to show its age.

The Corporate Combined Volunteer Project began in 1985 as the result of joint efforts by three local Orange County volunteer centers. The results, in most instances, have not only provided financial benefits to the organizations but also striking transformations in appearance, volunteer officials said.
